HW1

·         Find a research adviser and meet with him/her to discuss your project.

·         One or two students (TBD) will present papers next time.  Their presentations should provide a brief, high-level summary of the paper and accomplish the following:

o   give some general background for their research topic

o   show how the paper motivates (or is related to) their research

Use of diagrams/pictures is encouraged.

·         Start putting together the list of papers you expect to use in the background section of your intro, one of which you will present in class.  Ask your adviser or myself for help with this if you are not sure how to proceed with this.  This list will be due in two weeks.

HW 2

·         Send me (links to) three papers related to your research, specifying the one you wish to present if you have a preference.  This should be emailed to me before Monday, Sept 19.

·         Start working on your research project timeline (with as much detail as possible); it will be due week 4 (Mon, Sept 26).

·         Evan and Sarah will be presenting papers next time.  Their presentations should meet the same goals as the previous week (see above), but they will also be leading the discussion afterward that dissects, analyzes and critiques the introductions of the papers they present.
